Ulster 6   Leinster 6

One team came to entertain the crowd, the other team came to cause trouble. However Sparky soon sorted out the toothless Leo and the hapless Lion was escorted from the pitch by the ever alert Eventsec security team.

One team came to play rugby the other came to whinge at the referee for an hour and a half (or possibly longer).

The much awaited clash of the form teams in Ireland ended up a damp squib thanks to the appalling weather and a poor display by the referee Olan Trevor who looked a bit out of his depth and made very little allowances for the conditions.

Ulster faced the wind in the first half and a solid defensive display limited Leinster to three points. Ulster must have went gone to sat in the changing rooms confident of a win with the elements behind them in the second half.

Leinster played the conditions and the referee well in the second half and limited Ulster to two long range penalties, both converted by Humphreys. A sustained period of ball retention saw Leinster drive up the field and get a deserved equalising penalty in front of the posts.

All in all a fair result and a good workout for both teams ahead of the Heineken Cup games over the next fortnight. The occasion itself was a bit of a disappointment thanks largely to the continual abuse of the referee by O'Driscoll and Horgan who let themselves down with their churlish behaviour. The sooner the IRB stamp down on this sort of intimidation of the officials the better.

The FRU Man of the Match goes to Roger Wilson who looked the tidiest of the back row in the conditions.

INTISTA Week 12

Nothing much to report on the Predictions League except that we are now up to date with the scores.

However we thought we'd show this rare photo of Youngman actually buying a drink on Saturday - extraordinary!!!

Supporters Photos.

Local Jet ski expert and man about town Wee Davy sent in the picture on the left taken last week during his holiday in Jamaica. Seemingly the Ulster top went down a treat with Davy's five new friends - well according to his story they kept trying to get him out of it.

The FRU also witnessed the inaugural meeting of the Ulster Branch of the Manchester City supporters club. These four losers ardent supporters finally discovered, after three years of drinking together at home and away matches, that they all supported Manchester City. Well I guess its the sort of thing that you would want to keep quiet. You may also notice the grinning features of media tart Dergman who jumped into position as soon as the camera was brought out.

We were hoping for more pictures but unfortunately our local photographer misplaced his camera. If anyone has found a Nikon Coolpix in a Alpine Lowe pouch in the Ravenhill area please contact the FRU at thefru@btinternet.com.

Letters to the Editor.
Dear Sir,

As a regular reader I wish to draw attention to a minor lapse in your standards,

" Ulster must have WENT"

Dear oh dear !!!

Yours etc.,

Samueltee.
Ed - Things are bad when I'm getting corrected in the use of my grammar from Samuel(string of conscience)tee!

Dear Sir,

Is there any relationship between your glowing article about Friends School Lisburn and the fact that they suffered thier first defeat on Saturday against the mighty Ballyclare?

Yours etc.,

Tighthead Prod.
Ed - There goes our Schools Roundup section then - the curse of The FRU strikes again!

Schools Roundup.

As far as schools rugby goes this season, there have been only one or two major upsets. However one team seems to have built up quite a list of results. Friends School Lisburn having never so much as made the semi-final of the Schools Cup competition have this year produced a currently unbeaten side, winning 11 games from 11 and scoring 45 tries in the process.

Whilst only having one representative player on a schools U19 squad, the team as a whole have shown their ability to compete at 1st XV level beating teams such as Sullivan, Governor and Bangor by considerable margins. They have yet to come across a team able to cause them any real trouble.

Only time will tell if they are the finished article and with a big test coming up in their local derby clash against fancied side Wallace High School, we may see if the Friends side have what it takes to cause an upset in this years Renault Schools Cup.
