Ulster 21  Munsters 24

Ulster appeared to be cruising to a bonus point victory only to implode in the second half - and worse than that Mulligan gets on TV.

Ulster came out in the first half fired up and determined to do the business against a second string Munster side. Things looked to be going according to plan when a couple of training moves, faultlessly executed, cut the spirited Munster defence to shreds and resulted in tries for Steiny and Trimble. With Roger going over from a line out in between the backs efforts it looked as though Ulster were going to coast to a fairly easy victory.

Things didn't look too different at the start of the second half with Caldwell, amongst others, coming close. Then Munsters scored a try and Ulster started to slowly fall apart. This, added to some extraordinarily incompetent refereeing from the ever biased Roland, made the second half particularly uncomfortable to watch.

Well done to Munsters for having the determination to fight back but this defeat was truly Ulster's fault. Not for the first time this season Ulster had got themselves into a good position and then failed to push on. This is not the fault of the coaches who have done their job in getting the team into match winning positions but is the fault of the players who stop doing their job and go chasing the ball. The team becomes a series of individuals and this has to be down to poor on field leadership. Experienced Pros like Harrison, Humpherys, Fitzpatrick and Dawson need to stand up and be counted as leaders, not just players.

The league is over and Ulster have done well in maintaining an interest for much of this season after winning it last year. Our young coaches, McCall and Clarke, have cut their teeth over the last three years and they've made plenty of mistakes and our Heineken Cup form has been extremely disappointing.

However, they've also won the League and put us in serious contention again this year and some of the rugby played, in bursts has been outstanding. Most pleasing is that they continue to bring through a string of young Ulster players and have tempted back some exiles. The most infuriating thing this season, however, has been that a certain something has been missing to change this team from a good side to a great side. Let's hope that this something can be found over the next few games.

INTISTA Predictions League Week 28

Ulster and Edinburgh let most people down this week with two being the most popular score. Bruised Plums and Albert did manage to score three by going for a home win for the Borders.

Plums moves up to forth place which is not bad for someone who knows nothing about rugby!

Competition Time.

Chief Fruette Resigns!

So disappointed was Chief Fruette, Mrs Derg, after Friday nights abysmal performance that she refused to be photographed with any of the players!

Steiny and Hugo were so shocked by this that they actually came into the Scoop bar to look for her and the FRU were there to capture this possibly historic moment. (See above.)

Do not fear that this is the end of the FRU Galleries as the FRU can announce the exclusive signing of Derg Sister (left and above) to stand in next year as Chief Fruette. (Let's hope we've taught her to keep her eyes open by then!)

Failing that there's always Derg Brother (far right) and "friend" who may put their pints down long enough for a couple of photos!
